About Lewisville

On the south shore of Lewisville Lake, this Denton County city also dips into Dallas County and sits just north of DFW Airport. The first settlement was called Holford's Prairie. It was later renamed for Basdeal Lewis, who bought land here in the 1850s, and the city incorporated in 1925. Growth picked up after the Garza-Little Elm Dam was finished in 1954 and created the lake, and again after DFW Airport opened in 1974.

Interstate 35E runs straight through town, with State Highway 121, the Sam Rayburn Tollway, close by. Main Street, FM 407 and FM 3040 carry local traffic. The DCTA A-train stops at Old Town, Hebron and Highland Village/Lewisville Lake stations. JPMorgan Chase and Lewisville ISD are among the largest employers. People spend weekends at the lake, the 2,600-acre Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area, Railroad Park and the Old Town district, with Vista Ridge Mall for shopping.
